College Scholarship Program for TALL High School Seniors
Each year the Portland Skyliners Tall Club selects a high school senior or graduate about to enter their first year of college in the fall to be the recipient of a scholarship to be used for educational purposes. The winner of the Portland Skyliners scholarship is then entered to compete for the annual scholarship awarded by Tall Clubs International™ as well as several that are awarded each year by the non-profit Tall Clubs International Foundation. SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS The scholarship is open to all high school seniors and any applicants under the age of 21 who will be entering his or her first year at a 2- or 4-year institution of higher learning. Applicants must meet the club's minimum height requirements of 5'10" for women and 6'2" for men. (We'd love to have our applicants eventually become members of the Tall Club, once they meet the minimum 21-year age requirement!) APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS The completed application packet must include: • Carefully completed application, signed by the applicant • Official transcript from his or her high school • Two recommendation forms, with letters of recommendation, from within the school community • An original essay entitled, "What Being Tall Means to Me" (one page 8.5 x 11, typed in Times New Roman 12 point font size) • Signed general release form indicating preference regarding publication of the essay and/or photo of applicant • Photograph suitable for publication DEADLINES Portland Skyliners' scholarship application forms will be available upon request beginning September 1st, and must be completed and returned postmarked no later than March 1st. Our scholarship chair will contact you and send application/instructions. Portland Skyliners' SCHOLARSHIP AWARD • The annual monetary award varies from year to year, up to $1000. • The recipient's application will be forwarded to Tall Clubs International™ (TCI) and the Tall Clubs International Foundation to compete for one of several additional $1000 scholarships. Click here to read additional information about the TCI scholarships. • We typically ask that the scholarship winner attend one of our events with their parents/family to receive the award, normally right after school is out or before the college year begins. The scholarship chair will work the date out with the winner. |
This year, three Portland applicants were submitted for scholarships to the Tall Club Foundation. Charlize Blain, Longview, Washington received a scholarship from them. Our Portland Skyliners scholarship went to Vera Mazzetta of Portland, Oregon.
